Understanding Vaishno Devi Rates
All rates at Vaishno Devi are regulated by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB). Every service — pony, palki, pitthu (porter), battery car, helicopter, ropeway — has a fixed official fare. Always insist on a printed receipt before paying. Report overcharging at the Shrine Board helpline: 1800-180-3003 (toll-free).
Helicopter: Service runs between Katra and Sanjichhat (near Bhawan). Must be booked in advance on maavaishnodevi.org. Cancellations due to weather are refunded. Battery Car: Available on the old route from Darshani Deodhi and at Sanjichhat. Pony/Palki: Available on the old route only (not on Tarakote). Book from the official stand — never from touts near the entrance.
